Nonfiction in today's Common Core Era: Helping Students Learn and Remember Content Vocabulary + Improve Comprehension
Monday, November 25, 2019      9:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.
Location:  Montec Building, 1121 East Broadway, Missoula, MT in the large conference room
Presenter:  Ann Ellsworth
Registration:  $100
For educators of grades 2-8
6 OPI renewal units
Coffee and snacks provided.  Lunch on your own.
Course # 18551017

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:
This presentation focuses on how to help students "own" academic vocabulary. As teachers, we know that comprehension cannot occur without a strong vocabulary base.  Research suggests that students need multiple exposures to transfer words from the "I don't know" category to established knowledge where they are empowered to use the word correctly. We will explore Tier I and II words, engage in hands-on learning that demystifies new/unfamiliar words, and learn how to use repetition in meaningful contexts. You'll leave this session, wanting to try out these active learning activities that help students become word wizards.
Bring your laptops or wireless device.
