An Overview

This 2-hour Zoom will cover underage substance use trends in Montana and the nation. We will look at substance use patterns across different groups and explore disparities and groups at particular risk. The risk factors for substance use will be examined, as well as what protects youth from developing substance use problems. We will discuss what prevention tools are available and what the current science is saying works best. Lastly, we will learn how we as educators and community members can help prevent underage substance use.
Intended Audience:
Teachers, Parents/Guardians, Counselors, Administrators
Intended Outcomes: Participants will participate in an overview of the legal principles of Title IX in order to ensure that they are in compliance. Kaleva Law office will provide guidance on how to ensure schools are set up for legally handling any Title IX grievances.
Equipment: Laptop computer with an internet connection
Presenter: All Nations Health Center Faith Price, M.S., M.A. Community Prevention Coordinator
Faith is a full-time community prevention coordinator at All Nations Health Center in Missoula, MT doing suicide and substance use prevention. She has a master’s degree in prevention science from Washington State University, and is currently a part-time doctoral candidate in prevention science through WSU. Her primary area of research is substance use prevention, particularly with Native American youth. She is the chair of the Healthy Missoula Youth prevention coalition’s Policy and Law committee, and a member of the Montana Prevention Certification Board.
