Trauma Support Cohort for Montana Educators

This year in education has turned into a “building the plane as we fly” situation. Professional educators are being stretched in ways they never have been before. There’s no roadmap, no template, for how to teach during a pandemic. This group will provide a safe space to address the tough and hard topics that come with teaching this year. Since we are literally living during a traumatic time, we will focus on trauma-informed practices and support to help educators navigate their stressors.

This eight week course will be hosted on Zoom remote conferencing. The structure of each weekly meeting (75 minutes each) will be:

Each week, we will discuss practical tools, skills, strategies that can be used in the classroom/online room IMMEDIATELY.
Week 1: Intro, Expectations, Cohort Development: Trauma-Informed Foundation
Week 2: Emotional Regulation, Developmental Age vs. Chronological Age
Week 3: Creating Emotional Safety, Building Relationship
Week 4: Understanding the Sensory System and Fight/Flight/Freeze/Fawn
Week 5: Understanding the Emotional Regulation System
Week 6: Understanding Social Skills and Relationships with Peers
Week 7: Teacher Self-Care, More Pandemic Stressors
Week 8: Wrap Up

Who Should Attend? Any Montana Educator (A maximum of 10 per cohort, minimum of 6 per cohort. We would love to split this off into elementary, middle, and high school cohorts.)

Dates: tentatively the weeks of February 22 - April 5, 2021.  Dates and times to be determined.  Register now and Stacy will contact your cohort to determine the best day of week/time.

​Cost: $299/person

Credits: 8 Montana OPI renewal units (1 unit per session)

Instructor: Stacy G. York Nation, LCSW, Social Worker
Stacy is a licensed clinical social worker who got her start in school based mental health. She has a small private practice in Colorado. Stacy has spent the last 5 years traveling the country to train and educate professional educators on trauma-informed care. Stacy completed a grant project with Montana’s OPI that included the completion of a trauma-informed student handbook template. Stacy is familiar with the rural nature of Montana and all that goes with that in trying to meet the needs of a community. Stacy also serves as a Behavioral Health Officer in the Wyoming  Army National Guard. This experience has provided Stacy with opportunities to work with higher level officials in problem solving hard, tough system issues.
