Educator Performance Appraisal System
WMPLC offers virtual or face-to-face EPAS workshops to school districts. Our instructor will work with you to schedule training/consultations and can travel to your location. While the webpage highlights the support for school districts adapting, adopting or aligning the state-approved teacher evaluation model, Montana EPAS, as a veteran administrator, our workshop developer matches district training needs based on specific needs.
Educational research resulting from the Gates Foundation 2013 Measures for Effective Teaching project clearly advocates for increased leader and teacher training evolving around all aspects of teacher evaluation. The Montana Office of Public Instruction aligns the Montana Educator Performance Appraisal System to the 2013 Charlotte Danielson Framework for Teaching. Student achievement increases follow intense focus and district-wide training on all aspects of any teacher evaluation model.
WMPLC can assist any and all districts at whatever stage or phase of implementing a high-quality evaluation system. School Districts interested in acquiring a full, systemic approach should refer to the WMPLC webpage entitled, "Teacher and Principal Evaluation Project (Based off the Washington State model)." This training option provides districts with a fully developed training model for district-level administrators and building administrators seeking to update and implement a high-quality evaluation model based on increasing student outcomes.
Administrative Rules of Montana (ARM) Chapter 55 Standards of Accreditation Revised provides the framework for the evaluation process used in Montana schools. The standards outline the minimum guidelines and requirements of the evaluation system used by a school district.
Implementation of the requirements of ARM 10.55.701 (4)(a) began in all Montana school districts in the 2013-14 school year. As directed by the standard, model evaluation instruments have been developed and published to assist school districts in meeting the state standards for educator evaluation. Model instruments promote the inclusion of professional growth components in the overall system.
