Mindfulness/Yoga Workshops for Educators:
WMPLC offers virtual and face-to-face Mindfulness and Yoga workshops to school districts. Our instructor will work with you to schedule trainings/consultations.
Yoga and mindfulness in a classroom setting has many benefits! Most importantly, it offers tools for the educator to use before, during and after teaching as a form of self care so we can stay calm, happy and centered throughout their school day. The secondary benefit here is that children gain these skills by your demonstration! Educators may notice increased mental and physical health, increased immune function and less fatigue from teaching.
Then, for children more specifically, Jess will share with you fun and engaging games and short lessons that can be taught as standalone exercises or mixed into your curriculum as a way for children to explore a topic from different angles, such as incorporating movement and all 5 senses. There are also quick, simple and effective breaths, movements and mindfulness tools that can be woven into your existing routine to increase the flow and decrease the chaos during the school day.
On a broader level, exploring the role of mindfulness and yoga can be a “backdrop” for how you hold space for your classroom. We explore how mindfulness can help us shift our perspective of children and how they learn and why they do what they do. We learn to stay “centered” rather than being blown around by the crazy energies kids can bring into a space. We practice the art of listening and careful observation, reflecting what a child says to us, allowing big feelings (while holding boundaries) and creating a space that is more welcoming and relaxing for all.
Jess offers classes specific to either yoga or mindfulness, and a combination. The trainings can be designed for educators themselves to find more health in their lives (Self Care for Educators) or for educators to use in their classroom. The tools are aimed at children in preschool through about 5th grade. Jess can be available by the hour, for a half day or a full day. We can meet in person (following Covid safety protocols) or over Zoom.
