Introduction to Mindfulness for Educators:

WMPLC offers face to face Mindfulness workshops to school districts.
Our instructor will work with you to schedule trainings/consultations and can travel to your location.

Choose from half day or full day workshops:
1/2 Day
In this workshop, we will discuss the fundamentals of mindfulness and the the value of incorporating mindfulness into your classroom. With guidance from Kate you will explore and experience techniques of mindfulness. You will participate in a personal practice and ways to bring those techniques to your students.
You can expect an overview of the concepts and will take away 3 tools to use in your classroom immediately.
Full Day:
Continuing to build on the foundations of the first half of the day participants will begin to develop usable strategies for their classroom. With support from Kate you will practice teaching mindfulness skills to your peers in small groups.  Each participant will begin to create a repertoire of mindful activities for personal use and to share with students.

Mindful Sessions
Can be combined for multiple day workshops

Mindful movement:
Movement is essential for a healthy body and mind. Mindful movement combines breath techniques and body awareness. In this class you will practice sets of movements for Focus, Well-being, confidence and positivity. Sometimes the idea of using the classroom as a movement space can feel like chaos. Participants will learn methods for teaching movement in the classroom. Methods will include how to teach moving safely in the classroom, brain dance and brain breaks.

Mindful Meditations:
Developing a mindfulness practice involves some amount of meditation.  Meditation may sound like a big feat but with practice is attainable for everyone.  In this session we will practice different types of meditations suitable for all.  Meditations for slowing the body, focusing the mind and calming the heart. You will come away with 3 meditations that you can begin to practice with your students on a regular basis.

Mindful Transitions/ Gratitude:
In our fast paced lives it is easy to forget how to transition between classes, subjects and event conversations. Taking time to be grateful is proven to reduce stress and build resilience to life’s challenges. This session will focus on developing a meaningful practice in gratitude to assist in daily transitions. We will use journaling, meditation and mindful awareness to build this skill. Each participant will create their own gratitude journal and come away with tools for transitioning to share with their classes.

Mindful Communication:
Not only what we say but how we carry ourselves and what we project is a part of teaching. The more awareness we have of what we are communicating the more effective we can become as educators. Mindful communication skills will be discussed and practiced among our peers.  Participants will begin to develop an effective mindful language.

All courses are open to beginners and seasoned practitioners. Come prepared to share, play and be mindful!

Student/Participant feedback
"I only wish we'd had more time. The mindfulness activities we did throughout were very instructive. In addition, as a person with anxiety, I always start feeling stressed when I'm in a new learning environment. Having opportunities to reset throughout the workshop actually helped me stay more focused and relaxed. I can apply a lot of the meditation activities to my own learning."
"Kate is wonderful and this retreat is so applicable for working with young learners with varied educational needs."
"Kate was amazing! The yurt was cozy and the hikes were beautiful."
